Segregation, informativeness and Lorenz dominance

چکیده
It is possible to partially order cities according to the informativeness of neighborhoods about their ethnic groups. It is also possible to partially order cities with two ethnic groups according to the Lorenz criterion. We show that a segregation order satisfies four well-established segregation principles if and only if it is consistent with the informativeness criterion. We then use this result to show that for the two-group case, the Lorenz and the informativeness criteria are equivalent. Journal of Economic Literature Classification Numbers: C43, C81, D63.

Ranking intersecting Lorenz curves
Ranking Intersecting Lorenz Curves This paper is concerned with the problem of ranking Lorenz curves in situations where the Lorenz curves intersect and no unambiguous ranking can be attained without introducing weaker ranking criteria than first-degree Lorenz dominance. To deal with such situations two alternative sequences of nested dominance criteria between Lorenz curves are introduced. At ...
متن کاملMultivariate Lorenz dominance based on zonoids∗
The classical Lorenz curve visualizes and measures the disparity of items which are characterized by a single variable: The more the curve bends, the more scatter the data. Recently a general approach has been proposed and investigated that measures the disparity of multidimensioned items regardless of their dimension. This paper surveys various generalizations of Lorenz curve and Lorenz domina...
متن کاملInfinite order Lorenz dominance for fair multiagent optimization
This paper deals with fair assignment problems in decision contexts involving multiple agents. In such problems, each agent has its own evaluation of costs and we want to find a fair compromise solution between individual point of views. Lorenz dominance is a standard decision model used in Economics to refine Pareto dominance while favoring solutions that fairly share happiness among agents. I...

Robust Inequality Comparisons This paper is concerned with the problem of ranking Lorenz curves in situations where the Lorenz curves intersect and no unambiguous ranking can be attained without introducing weaker ranking criteria than first-degree Lorenz dominance. To deal with such situations Aaberge (2009) introduced two alternative sequences of nested dominance criteria for Lorenz curves wh...
متن کاملLorenz Dominance and Non-welfaristic Redistribution
Given the decision to implement a non-welfaristic redistribution scheme, we analyze which mechanisms are favored by traditional Lorenz dominance and poverty dominance adherents. We show that for large classes of income functions Lorenz dominance results can be found in the comparison of two egalitarian equivalent mechanisms. Comparisons of different conditionally egalitarian mechanisms only yie...
